“Holy Spirit, Lord of Light, From the clear celestial height Thy pure beaming radiance give…. .

..Thou, on us who evermore Thee confess and thee adore, With thy sevenfold gifts descend:

Give us comfort when we die Give us life with thee on high

Give us joys that never end.”

(Veni, sancte Spiritus)

O God, who by the mystery of today's great feast sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation,

pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit across the face of the earth

and, with the divine grace that was at work when the Gospel was first proclaimed,

fill now once more the hearts of believers.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, for ever and ever. Amen

Join the Fightback! As you probably know, in the space of just one week at the end of June, MPs voted to legalise assisted suicide and to decriminalise abortion, allowing for abortion up to birth. These are threats that we should all care deeply about. SPUC invites you to join in the fightback, to make your voice heard and to stand up for the most vulnerable. Please fill out one of the postcards at Church porch, and SPUC will send you information about what you can do for the cause.

The Most Precious Blood of Jesus (2) But why does God still willing to do so even we offended Him? Because God Loves us so, to an unimaginable level… If you have heard and touched by the story of the mother pelican's love, that in time of famine would striked her chest with the beak to feed her young with her blood to prevent starvation. How much more it should make you feel when Jesus poured out all the life-Blood from His Sacred Body and died on the Cross in order to save you from eternal death! Can you see how precious we are to God? We, human, are not just merely part of His Creation, we are created in the image of God, we are His children, and He guard us as 'the apple of His Eye'. Even the angels did not had the same privilege after they sinned...We are ransomed, so our souls can be free from the clutches of the Satan, even gold and silver is not enough, but can only be done by the Most Precious Blood of Christ. Indeed, while Abel's blood cried to the skies from the ground for his vengeance; Jesus' Blood cried to God from the garden of Gethsemane, from the scourging at the pillar, from the crowning with thorns, along His way to Calvary and from the Cross, not for His Own vengeance, but for our mercy and pardon. Jesus, loves us Heart and Soul, pour out His whole Love and His every last drops of Blood, every single drop is a plead for us that sounds like roaring thunder which shakes the whole Heaven and earth. Through His Blood, we receive the promise of salvation and Eternal Life. How powerful is Jesus' Most Precious Blood! Let us today realise and increase our love to His unending Love.

Do you know they are the two Welsh martyrs within our Parish who died for the Faith and were executed for exercising their priestly duties? St Philip Evans was a Jesuit Priest born in Monmouth, and St John Lloyd was a secular Priest from Breconshire. They were both arrested around the same time during the Titus Oates plot, imprisoned in the same cell in Cardiff castle and executed on the same day, 22nd July 1679, at Gallows Field which is now known as Richmond Road — a busy road junction but the spot is marked by a blue plaque on the wall of the NatWest bank. In 2021, two skulls and a cluster of other bones which were discovered back in 1878 in an attic in Holywell in Wales have been finally identified as the relics of the two martyrs. St Philip Evans was the jolliest of all the martyrs. He was playing tennis when told of his execution the next day. So happy did the news make him that he went on with the game! St. John Lloyd said he was not a good speaker, he said to the crowd before he died: “...I shall only say that I die in the true catholic and apostolic faith, according to these words in the Creed: I believe in the Holy Catholic Church; And with these three virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity”. However, actions speak louder than words. St Philip Evans and St John Lloyd both laid down their lives for the faith went far beyond words, far deeper than words. Their heroic witness echoes down the ages and speaks to us loudly today. St Philip Evans, pray for us! St John Lloyd, pray for us! (Both martyrs’ stained glass windows can still be seen on the left of the entrance in St Peter’s Church)

Show favour, O Lord, to your servants and mercifully increase the gifts of your grace, that, made fervent in hope, faith and charity, they may be ever watchful in keeping your commands. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
