Archbishop Mark O’Toole’s Letter The Archbishop has written to Catholics in Wales urging them to vote in the upcoming Senedd Election. His letter called on Catholics to “participate actively in these elections and to fulfil their civic duty by voting for candidates who will best uphold the dignity of the human person and the common good.” He also wrote: “This is your opportunity to shape the future of Wales through a Catholic lens for the good of all. As you discern among the candidates and their approach to these and other important issues, I encourage you to pray for those who are seeking election and those who govern. May their decisions be always guided by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and a true desire to serve the people of Wales, especially the most vulnerable.” Five Key Areas of Importance Ahead of the election, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales has issued a document outlining the work of the Catholic Church in Wales as well as the Catholic community’s main policy requests. The document highlights five key areas of importance for the Catholic Church in Wales: Education, Life Issues, Historic Churches, Healthcare and the Environment. Archbishop Mark has published a pastoral letter, 'Heart speaks to heart', calling the Archdiocese to become a missionary and synodal diocese built on prayer and four pillars: youth and vocations , evangelising zeal , formation in faith , and loving service . The letter challenges Catholics to encounter Christ more deeply and share that encounter with others, and will be broken into six pieces for study during Lent or Eastertide. This Sunday 7th September , Pope Leo XIV will canonize Bl Carlo Acutis in St. Peter's Square in Rome, together with Bl Pier Giorgio Frassati. Bl Carlo Acutis was born in London in 1991. But he moved to Italy with his parents a few months after his birth. Even though his parents were not particularly religious, but from a very early age, Carlo had a great love for the Eucharist. Although like other teenagers who wore jeans and trainers, played video games, loved computing and websites and enjoyed football, it was obvious that Carlo lived his life for Christ. He used the internet to spread his faith as he created a remarkable website which presents Eucharistic miracles from across the globe. However, after being diagnosed with untreatable leukaemia, Carlo died when he was only fifteen. He was beatified in 2020 following a miraculous healing of a Brazilian child – a healing attributed to his powerful intercession. Here are some of Bl Carlo Acutis’ inspiring quotes: “All people are born as originals but many die as photocopies.” “Sadness is looking at ourselves, happiness is looking towards God.” “The Eucharist is the highway to heaven.” “I offer all the suffering I will have to suffer for the Lord, for the Pope, and the Church.” ‘God’s Influencer’ - a short biography of Carlo Acutis is available for £7.50 from the Church Shop
