One of his disciples said to him,
‘Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.’
And he said to them, ‘When you pray, say:
‘Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation.’
(Luke 11:1-4)

The Most Precious Blood of Jesus (3) On the Mount Calvary, after Jesus got stripped off His clothes, this Cross that was laid in front of His eyes, does He not know that It was a representation of cruelty, shamefulness and injustice? Yes, He knew better than anyone else. Yet, He most willingly to be nailed onto It, and so to pour out His Precious Blood. From then on, this Cross becomes a true sign of Love, Forgiveness and Salvation for us until the end of time. But that is not all, after Jesus gave up His Spirit on the Cross, His Most Sacred Heart was pierced by a lance from the side, blood and water gushed forth from it - this is the origin and growth of the Church. "For it was from the side of Christ as he slept the sleep of death upon the cross that there came forth the 'wondrous sacrament of the whole Church.'" As Eve was formed from the sleeping Adam's side, so the Church was born from the pierced heart of Christ hanging dead on the cross." (CCC #766) Jesus, with His own Most Precious Blood bought the Church and made her His Holy Bride. He died, so she can be born. Jesus Christ Our Lord becomes the Church's Bridegroom and they become one body, one flesh. And we, members of the Church, become part of His Body. He Loves us, just as He Loves His Bride. He looks after us, just as His Beloved children. He nourishes us everyday, with His own Most Sacred Body and Most Precious Blood through our daily receiving of the Holy Eucharist, so our souls can be refreshed and strengthened and saved from dying of spiritual starvation. Many people in Jesus' time cannot understand when Jesus said to them: "He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him." (John 6:56) But just like Jesus describe Himself as the vine and we are the branches, which means we all need to share the same food, nutrients and water, in order for us grow and flourish; and like all cells share the same flowing blood within the body, thus without Him to nourish us with His very Self, we will wither and die. Behold, on the front of the main altar a bas-relief carving of the Lamb of God shedding hid blood for us (Book of Revelation) can be seen, similarly it is portrayed in the holy vision at Knock, in Ireland. It reminds us that from this Blood flows all graces for each one of us down the ages, It is the courage of martyrs, the strength of Confessors, the purity of Virgins, the help of those in peril, the relief of the burdened, the hope of the penitent, the consolation of the dying… Therefore, let us approach and receive the Eucharist and Precious Blood every time with love and reverence.

Sunday 27 July 2025 Blessed are those who have not lost hope (cf. Sir 14:2) Pope Leo has given us his message for this Day:"...The Jubilee we are now celebrating helps us to realise that hope is a constant source of joy, whatever our age. When that hope has also been tempered by fire over the course of a long life, it proves a source of deep happiness. Sacred Scripture offers us many examples of men and women whom the Lord called late in life to play a part in his saving plan. We can think of Abraham and Sarah, who, advanced in years, found it hard to believe when God promised them a child...Old age, barrenness and physical decline apparently blocked any hope for life and fertility in these men and women...Yet whenever we think that things cannot change, the Lord surprises us with an act of saving power… The life of the Church and the world can only be understood in light of the passage of generations. Embracing the elderly helps us to understand that life is more than just the present moment, and should not be wasted in superficial encounters and fleeting relationships. Instead, life is constantly pointing us toward the future... If it is true that the weakness of the elderly needs the strength of the young, it is equally true that the inexperience of the young needs the witness of the elderly in order to build the future with wisdom. How often our grandparents have been for us examples of faith and devotion, civic virtue and social commitment, memory and perseverance amid trials! The precious legacy that they have handed down to us with hope and love will always be a source of gratitude and a summons to perseverance…” You can view the full Papal message on: www.cbcew.org.uk/ popes-message-to-grandparents-and-the-elderly-2025/

Join the Fightback! As you probably know, in the space of just one week at the end of June, MPs voted to legalise assisted suicide and to decriminalise abortion, allowing for abortion up to birth. These are threats that we should all care deeply about. SPUC invites you to join in the fightback, to make your voice heard and to stand up for the most vulnerable. Please fill out one of the postcards at Church porch, and SPUC will send you information about what you can do for the cause.

The Most Precious Blood of Jesus (2) But why does God still willing to do so even we offended Him? Because God Loves us so, to an unimaginable level… If you have heard and touched by the story of the mother pelican's love, that in time of famine would striked her chest with the beak to feed her young with her blood to prevent starvation. How much more it should make you feel when Jesus poured out all the life-Blood from His Sacred Body and died on the Cross in order to save you from eternal death! Can you see how precious we are to God? We, human, are not just merely part of His Creation, we are created in the image of God, we are His children, and He guard us as 'the apple of His Eye'. Even the angels did not had the same privilege after they sinned...We are ransomed, so our souls can be free from the clutches of the Satan, even gold and silver is not enough, but can only be done by the Most Precious Blood of Christ. Indeed, while Abel's blood cried to the skies from the ground for his vengeance; Jesus' Blood cried to God from the garden of Gethsemane, from the scourging at the pillar, from the crowning with thorns, along His way to Calvary and from the Cross, not for His Own vengeance, but for our mercy and pardon. Jesus, loves us Heart and Soul, pour out His whole Love and His every last drops of Blood, every single drop is a plead for us that sounds like roaring thunder which shakes the whole Heaven and earth. Through His Blood, we receive the promise of salvation and Eternal Life. How powerful is Jesus' Most Precious Blood! Let us today realise and increase our love to His unending Love.

Do you know they are the two Welsh martyrs within our Parish who died for the Faith and were executed for exercising their priestly duties? St Philip Evans was a Jesuit Priest born in Monmouth, and St John Lloyd was a secular Priest from Breconshire. They were both arrested around the same time during the Titus Oates plot, imprisoned in the same cell in Cardiff castle and executed on the same day, 22nd July 1679, at Gallows Field which is now known as Richmond Road — a busy road junction but the spot is marked by a blue plaque on the wall of the NatWest bank. In 2021, two skulls and a cluster of other bones which were discovered back in 1878 in an attic in Holywell in Wales have been finally identified as the relics of the two martyrs. St Philip Evans was the jolliest of all the martyrs. He was playing tennis when told of his execution the next day. So happy did the news make him that he went on with the game! St. John Lloyd said he was not a good speaker, he said to the crowd before he died: “...I shall only say that I die in the true catholic and apostolic faith, according to these words in the Creed: I believe in the Holy Catholic Church; And with these three virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity”. However, actions speak louder than words. St Philip Evans and St John Lloyd both laid down their lives for the faith went far beyond words, far deeper than words. Their heroic witness echoes down the ages and speaks to us loudly today. St Philip Evans, pray for us! St John Lloyd, pray for us! (Both martyrs’ stained glass windows can still be seen on the left of the entrance in St Peter’s Church)

Show favour, O Lord, to your servants and mercifully increase the gifts of your grace, that, made fervent in hope, faith and charity, they may be ever watchful in keeping your commands. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
