Pope John Paul I beatification set for 4 September

Pope Francis will preside over the beatification Mass in St. Peter’s Square on 4 September 2022. “During the beatification, the team of postulators will gift the Holy Father with a reliquary containing the relics of the new Blessed,” according to a statement from the Press Office. Tickets for the Mass can be requested from the Prefecture of the Papal Household. Pope John Paul I’s was the shortest papacy in history, reigning over the See of Peter for on 33 days. His successors — John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis—have all praised the man known as “The Smiling Pope”. One of his quotes was: “The Christian should be characterized by an effort to see things in the best light; if it is true that the word Evangelos means good news, then Christian means happy man, spreader of happiness. 'Grim faces,' Saint Philip Neri used to say, 'are not made for the merry house of Paradise!”
