Eucharistic Miracle of Paris, France, 1290

There are many documents that testify this miracle. A deep study of the sources was done by Mrs Moreau-Rendu in a work entitled: A Paris, Rue des Jardins published in 1954 with a preface by Bishop Touzé who was the Auxiliary Bishop of Paris. The author, after a detailed list of the documents, placed them under rigorous examination and declared with confidence the authenticity of the facts. The best-known version of the story is found in the History of the Church of Paris written by the French archbishop, Archbishop Rupp: “On Easter Sunday of 1290, a man called Jonathas, who hated the Catholic Faith and did not believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the consecrated Host, was able to gain possession of a consecrated Host with the intent to desecrate it. The man stabbed the Host with a knife and It began to bleed; the blood filled the container in which he had placed the Host. Horrified by this, the man decided to throw the Host into the fire, but the Host came out of the fire by itself. In desperation, he threw the Host into boiling water but again the Host freed itself from the water, this time hovering in mid-air and then taking the form of a crucifix right in front of the man. Distressed by all this, Jonathas finally put the Host in the basin of a pious woman, a parishioner of Saint-Jean-en-Grève, who immediately brought the Host to her parish Priest. Over the centuries, the Host remained in a small reliquary in the Church of Saint-Jean. During the French Revolution it was lost without a trace.” (Reference: www.miracolieucaristici.org)

Unbound is a simple and safe model of praying for deliverance which was developed by Neal Lozano in the USA and is led in the UK by a team under the Bishop of Nottingham. An autumn course will be offered online starting 22 September. If you wish to know more and experience a brief taster of this ministry, there will be an information afternoon at All Hallows, Miskin (CF72 8PG) on Tues 15 September 2 pm - 5 pm . National leader Susan Walsh will give a brief introduction, followed by a testimony of how the model can be used in priestly ministry by Fr Antonio Ritaccio (national spiritual director to Unbound and a staff member at Allen Hall Seminary in London). Revd Dr Gareth Leyshon will then give a fuller teaching on how and why the model can be used. At the end of session, prayer teams will be available to offer a brief experience of receiving Unbound prayer. Refreshments will be available from 1pm. “The Catholic Medical Association (CMA) is dismayed by the re-introduction of the flawed Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill... The Commons Committee stage had been weighted heavily to supporters of the bill and was highly selective in the evidence they heard, excluding various organisations. CMA members who followed the debate were shocked at the way so many reasonable clarifications and amendments were rejected. The CMA both opposes the principle of legalising assisted suicide and specifically stands against this bill. It does this alongside professional medical bodies including the Royal Colleges of Physicians, Pathologists and Psychiatrists, the Association for Palliative Medicine, and the British Geriatrics Society... Medical opinion has changed...Prof Nicola Ranger, from the Royal College of Nursing, painted the stark picture of the “first discussion” not taking place with a doctor, but with a nurse at 2am. It is easy to imagine the permanent NHS bed crisis pushing a nurse to persuade the sick or elderly in the early hours that “You are not for resus, and you are expected to die in the next 6 months. You have a right to an assisted death… would you like me to ask the doctors in the morning?”, explaining how it would save money for the family and for the NHS. Public opinion has also changed. This May a major poll posed the question, “should the UK parliament prioritise fixing the NHS and improving palliative, social and end of life care before considering whether to introduce assisted suicide?” 60% overall agreed, compared to only 19% disagreeing and 23% who “didn’t know.” This is a dramatic change among a better-informed public. The CMA believes safeguards to protect vulnerable patients are of paramount importance. The recent dreadful scandals in maternity care prove the system cannot protect pregnant women and babies. How can we protect the sick, elderly, vulnerable and disabled from an NHS in crisis, desperate to clear beds, if assisted suicide is made legal?” For full statement, visit: https://catholicmedicalassociation.org.uk/

The Miracle of the Devoted Lambs of the Eucharist & St Francis of Assisi, Italy, 13th Century Franciscan historical chronicles told us that “during a trip to Rome, St Francis kept a little lamb with him, due to the inspiration of his devotion to Christ - his most beloved Lamb. Before he left, he entrusted it to a noble matron, Lady Jacopa of the Sette Soli, so she could take care of it in her home. And the lamb, as if spiritually taught by the saint in matters of the soul, always stayed by the woman’s side when she went to Church, when she stayed or returned. When the lady woke up late in some mornings, the lamb would nudge her with its little horns, and woke her with its bleats, encouraging her with its gestures and expressions to hurry to Church. The lady thus quite love and admire this lamb - disciple of Francis and teacher of devotion... Another time, at Santa Maria della Porziuncola, some people brought a sheep as a gift to St Francis, whom accepted it with gratitude, because he loved the sheep’s nature of innocence and simplicity. St Francis advised the little lamb to praise God and definitely not to bother any brothers. And the sheep sensed the piety of this man of God, so it carefully put his teachings into practice. When it heard the brothers singing in the choir, it would enter the Church, bend its knees, and bleat tenderly and harmoniously in front of the altar of the Virgin Mother of the Lamb, as if yearning to greet her. During the Mass celebration, at the moment of elevation, it would bow down, knees bent, as if this devout little animal wished to reprove people of little faith for their irreverence and encourage devout people for their reverence towards the Blessed Sacrament.” (Reference: www.miracolieucaristici.org )

On 1 November 1950, Pius XII defined the dogma of the Assumption. He solemnly proclaimed that the belief whereby the Blessed Virgin Mary, at the close of her earthly life, was taken up, body and soul, into the glory of heaven, definitively forms part of the deposit of faith, received from the Apostles. To avoid all that is uncertain the Pope did not state either the manner or the circumstances of time and place in which the Assumption took place—only the fact of the Assumption of Mary, body and soul, into the glory of heaven, is the matter of the definition. The Assumption completes God's work in her since it was not fitting that the flesh that had given life to God himself should ever undergo corruption. The Assumption is God's crowning of His work as Mary ends her earthly life and enters eternity. The feast turns our eyes in that direction, and gives us hope that we, too, will follow Our Lady when our life is ended.
