A Conversation with a Religious (2) Did your parents opposed your decision? I think they have a mixture of feelings. It is more like they worried about me and wouldn't want to part with me than an opposition. But I said to them that I am going to be with someone who is the King of all kings, who is All Mighty, who has everything, and I will be happy to be with Him. I also reassured them that they offered their daughter for Him who is All Powerful, He will also give them abundant Blessings. Knowing that they will be the 'in-laws' of God, how could He not look after them and attend to all their needs in my place. Does one need to have a certain characteristics in order to be a religious sister? We all have different characteristics, coming from all walks of life, and everyone has a story to tell, just like the different flowers from garden, woodland, hillside and vale. But the most important thing is '…the king greatly desire thy beauty...' (Psalm 45:11) This beauty, is not just what we already know about ourselves, but is deeper than what we can't even see within ourselves yet He can see within us. You see, we did not choose Him, instead, He chose us, and out of the thousands He chose us to be His bride. This is such a beautiful and romantic invitation. Because this is not just somebody, He is our God who ask for our love, ask for our hands. This is our answer to His Call. This is our love to His Love.

“Holy Spirit, Lord of Light, From the clear celestial height Thy pure beaming radiance give…. . ..Thou, on us who evermore Thee confess and thee adore, With thy sevenfold gifts descend: Give us comfort when we die Give us life with thee on high Give us joys that never end.” (Veni, sancte Spiritus) O God, who by the mystery of today's great feast sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation, pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit across the face of the earth and, with the divine grace that was at work when the Gospel was first proclaimed, fill now once more the hearts of believers. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen

A Conversation with a Religious (1) What made you want to become a Sister? Because of Jesus' Love for me and I want to be His bride. I was born in a Catholic family, and when I was little, my father used to play the cassettes of the lives of Saints for us to listen. I was particularly touched by St Thérèse of Lisieux's story and I wanted to follow her footsteps. Later on, there was a short period when I felt God's Call for me, it was not a whisper in the ear but a feeling of fallen in love, although I did not see anything but strange enough I know it was Jesus, and I knew at that time He is the one and no one else. I even want to drop everything and run to a convent straight away. But because I got some family considerations, I stopped myself. But you eventually became one? Yes, but it was many years later. To cut a long story short, after experienced a lot of unhappiness in life, one night for some reason I looked at the Crucifix in my room and I realised that although I have turned my back on Jesus, He is still here, ever waiting for me, to go back to Him. I hugged the Crucifix and cried for a long long time that night. Since then I changed. I said to myself: I have left Him once, I don't want to leave Him again. Because He is the One who deserves all my love.

Back in January this year, Pope Francis gave us his message for this Day, he said: “...Too often today, communication generates not hope, but fear and despair, prejudice and resentment, fanaticism and even hatred. All too often it simplifies reality in order to provoke instinctive reactions; it uses words like a razor; it even uses false or artfully distorted information to send messages designed to agitate, provoke or hurt...Hope, in fact, is not something easy...Hope is a hidden virtue, tenacious and patient. For Christians, it is not an option but a necessary condition...I dream of a communication capable of making us fellow travelers, walking alongside our brothers and sisters and encouraging them to hope in these troubled times. A communication capable of speaking to the heart, arousing not passionate reactions of defensiveness and anger, but attitudes of openness and friendship...Be meek and never forget the faces of other people; speak to the hearts of the women and men whom you serve in carrying out your work. Do not allow instinctive reactions to guide your communication. Always spread hope, even when it is difficult, even when it costs, even when it seems not to bear fruit. Try to promote a communication that can heal the wounds of our humanity. Make room for the heartfelt trust that, like a slender but resistant flower, does not succumb to the ravages of life, but blossoms and grows in the most unexpected places…All this you can do, and we can do, with God’s grace, which the Jubilee helps us to receive in abundance. This is my prayer, and with it, I bless each of you and your work.” (CBCEW) There is a Second Collection for the World Communications Sunday this weekend 31st May/1st June to help support this work.
